We use the dvr a lot! I'm all about passing by the commercials too. My husband records lots of sports events and granddaughter schedules a lot of shows weekly. I mostly watch reruns of old sitcoms and the Daily Show. We all love tv, and the internet too.

There's a little Houdini in all of us
by freeflyingfaerie inas i responded to an earlier post it occured to me that those of us who have been in the religion for any length of time are like harry houdini, the illusionist.. we willingly (for those that chose to really believe the lies) bound ourselves in chains.. we always had the opportunity to releaase ourselves...it was all an illusion...an illusion that we played along with.
but the option to end the mental confinement was always within our power.. going door to door we must have looked like a freak show to others.
we put ourselves in a glass cage in chains, as a "spectacle",...in which we were unwittingly frauds, because the whole time we could have gotton free.. that's all for now... .

I don't know. Mental control can certainly disable the will. The WT is expert at it. Humans need attention and recognition and approval, to an extent. Removal of all that is frightening and paralyzing.
The thing that starts the gears moving is some sort of cognitive dissonance, like when they pee on your leg and tell you it's raining. Then you begin to see your options, and the programming begins to fail.

Thinking of taking a break from this forum
by yadda yadda 2 instarting to feel my time is wasted on here lately and its time to move on.. some of the best, meaty stuff only gets a few hundreds views and as soon as the posts dry up a bit the thread is soon forgotten (usually in a few days) under the constantly falling snowflakes of new threads (many trival) continuously being created and popping up as 'active topics'.
the same core jw related subjects then keep reappearing over and over again as new threads without getting a thorough treatment at the time (eg, there must be at least one 'are jw's a cult' thread started each week on here; 'new light' topics get about 20 new threads started with the quality of analysis spread and diluted over all of them.).
anyone else tend to feel the same way at times?.

YO Yadda, stick around, you write VERY well about everything. You would be missed.
We need a LIKE button - sometimes I read and run - don't have time to write anything or acknowledge the post.

Children Do Not Get Enough Sleep in Watchtower
by WTWizard inthis past memorial was an exercise in waste for most people.
drive to the hall, fight for a parking space, get booted out of your seat, and then listen to a stale talk for 45 minutes.
then the big event: passing the plate of crackers and glass of spoiled grape juice.

Wizard, just found this topic and it exactly describes how my little granddaughter had to live until her mother got custody, recently. The kid said, when leaving her father's and stepmother's house: Now I don't have to half-ass my homework anymore!

Many people who feel that way, ambivalent and "riding the fence," will leave for a while but then go roaring back after they have kids. Being out is no guarantee that they stay out. Mind control is so powerful.

Residuals of the mind control. And affects us physically. My husband and I just sent our dis-a letter after being out a long time, because we want to be able to speak out about the rotten pedophile-protecting cult. As Martin Merriman from Ireland said when he was interviewed, we didn't want people we knew to hear we were disf and think we had done wrong (other than being in that mess to begin with) and were not repentant. Pre-emptive strike!

Poof!

Home schooled witness kids
by stillin insorry if i'm stepping on any toes here, but i haven't seen anything positive about home-schooling...at all.
the notion is that parents are taking advantage of the formative years to inculcate more worthwhile values while protecting their kids from worldly influences.
they end up with lazy, socially inept, illiterate duds who haven't a clue.

Every generation has its own recognizable characteristics. If a kid doesn't grow up going to school they miss out on the imprint. As an adult trying to mix in social-business venues, they are quickly seen as being different, like something is a little "off." They don't have that instant cultural click with others their own age.
I know I'm not telling this well, but some may understand me. I'm speaking from experience.
